My Christmas cookbook gift guide is out, written as usual from the perspective of which book will suit which family member not which books are the best of the year. Though there are many of my own favourites there.

A LOT of plant-based books this year which I always find a bit of a mystery given only around 11% of the population is veggie and a smaller percentage still vegan. Only @timhayward’s admirable Steak is dedicated - daringly - to meat.

First Christmas pud of the year @thecornerhousecanterbury and a very stylish (and delicious) one it was too. Plus an absolutely exemplary gratin dauphinoise* (served with the gorgeously sticky fall-apart slow roasted lamb shoulder). Thoroughly nice place, short sensible menu, not trying too hard to reinvent the wheel. Hooray.
* definitely up there in the top 10 potato dishes @mrvinosaurus
