Sainsbury’s is currently running its second 25% off promotion this autumn with some particularly good offers on its own Taste the Difference (TTD) range. The Chablis and Chateauneuf are also bargains.
The offer, which runs until the 4th December (other than in Scotland and convenience stores), applies to all wine - champagne, sparkling, sherry & port - so long as you buy six bottles in total.
It also - unlike some promotions - includes wines that are on special offer.
Please note these are the vintages I've tasted recently which I can't guarantee are the same as those on offer online. (The vintage isn't always indicated). I'd buy in store if I were you.
TTD Barrihuelo Rioja Blanco 2015 reduced from £7 to £6, £4.50 on this promotion
Smooth, full-flavoured white from this famous red wine region. For robust Spanish fish dishes such as hake with garlic
TTD Languedoc Blanc 2015 reduced from £7 to £6, £4.50 on this promotion
Another smooth, well-rounded wine similar to whites from the Rhône. Drink with pork or chicken.
TTD Albarino 2015 £8 down to £6 (current vintage showing as 2012 online so would only buy in store)
If you’re an albarino fan this should hit the spot. Clean crisp white to drink with seafood
TTD Niederösterreich riesling 2015 £8 down to £6
Pretty, delicate, floral, off-dry Austrian riesling. Good as an aperitif or with smoked fish
TTD Awatere Valley Riesling 2016 £8 down to £6
Fresh, bright, appley. The 2016 vintage is still very young but worth snapping up at this price and holding on to it until the spring. Think Asian style noodle salads
La Terrasse Chablis 2015 reduced from £11 to £8.50, £6.39 on this promotion
Classic clean, pristine Chablis at a brilliant price. Think prawns, crab and other shellfish.
Pouilly Fumé Champalouettes 2015 (above) £12 down to £9 on this promotion
Top value for this classic sauvignon blanc. 2015 was a good vintage in the Loire. Goats cheese is a classic but great with simple fish dishes and salads
TTD Languedoc Red reduced from £7 to £6, £4.50 on this promotion
Always on this list for sheer value for money. Robust winter red for hearty casseroles
TTD Barbera d’Asti 2015 £7 down to £5.25 on this promotion
Warming rustic Italian red for pasta and pizza. Perfect lasagne wine
Finca las Moras Art Series Malbec 2016 £7 down to £5.25 on this promotion
Big soft, ripe juicy Argentinian malbec. Could handle a bit of spice
TTD Chilean Pinot Noir 2015 reduced from £8 to £7, £5.25 on this promotion
Exotic dark-fruited pinot - think duck, or even turkey
TTD Saint Chinian Syrah Grenache 2014 (above) £8 down to £6 on this promotion
Really appealing, full, spicy, rich supple red. The kind of wine the Languedoc does so well. Ideal for winter warmers such as sausages and stews
TTD Douro 2015 £8 down to £6 on this promotion
Big, ripe, warming red made from the same grape varieties as port by the excellent Quinta do Crasto. Big meaty stews.
TTD Beaujolais-Villages Coteaux Granitiques 2015 £9 down to £6.75
Really delicious Beaujolais from 50 year old vines. Great with all kinds of charcuterie - and cold turkey. Chill lightly before serving.
Warwick First Lady Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 £10 down to £7.50
Smart elegant Cab from excellent South African producer. Would be lovely with roast or grilled lamb.
Chateau Barreyras Haut-Médoc 2012 £12 down to £10.75, £8.06 on this promotion
Smooth mellow classic Bordeaux. Not sure I’d pay the full price for it but at just over £8 it's a steal. Classic dinner party drinking (with something like a beef Wellington).
Chateauneuf du Pape Les Courlandes 2015 reduced from £14 to £12, £9 on this promotion
If you’re a Chateauneuf fan snap this up for the Christmas table. I doubt if you’ll find a better one at the price. (I made it my Wine of the Week recently)
TTD Late Harvest Tokaji 2015 reduced from £12 to £10, £7.50 on this promotion
Really pretty, delicate floral dessert wine, lighter than many Tokajis. Would be great with a light fruity Christmas pudding - or with cheese
TTD Vintage port 2003 £20 down to £15 on this promotion
Lovely smooth velvety port from the makers of Graham’s, Dow’s and Warre’s. One for the stilton. (Note you'll need to decant it)
Sainsbury's Winemaker’s Selection Blanc de Blancs Champagne, recently awarded a Which? Best Buy and Winemaker’s Selection Blanc de Noirs Champagne, both reduced from £20 to £16, £12 on this promotion
Two contrasting styles of fizz. The all-chardonnay blanc de blancs is elegant and creamy, the blanc de noirs richer and more robust. Question of which you prefer. FWIW the blanc de blancs is my favourite but both are brilliant value on this deal.
Taste the Difference Crémant de Loire reduced from £11 to £9, down to £6.75 on this promotion
Handsome looking party fizz for those who find prosecco too sweet and champagne too expensive.
