I’ve been trying to persuade my hugely talented stepson @flynvibert to sell his work for a while but he’s finally decided to as part of the #artistsupportpledge in response to COVID-19. The idea is that artists post an image of a piece of work they’re willing to sell for £200. Once they reach £1000 in sales they in turn must buy another artist’s work for £200. His work, which he explains overleaf, is extraordinary - between art and photography or, as one critic put it, between the table and the chair. (He creates the images entirely without digital manipulation.) I’ve always said to him that he will be famous one day. Maybe that moment is now - for which £200 seems a small price to pay.

It’s not often I drink cider with meals - heaven knows why not as it’s SO delicious and local to us here down in #Bristol (this one came from @barleywoodorchard) Anyway I used it to cook the amazing joint of mangalitza pork that came in my @coombesheadfarm provisions box once I had poured off the copious amounts of delicious fat which of course I’m squirrelling away for another day. The side dish (swipe left) which could have been a veggie main was a courgette and potato bake I adapted from a recipe my friend @fionasims came up with after a trip to Greece. I’ll post it on the website shortly. I didn’t have 2 of the key ingredients but you know what? It didn’t matter a bit!

10am. Late breakfast. It isn’t styled. It isn’t tidy but it’s an absolute feast. Homemade sourdough and handmade butter from @coombesheadfarm with a pot of fruit (quince? Wild plum?) jam. A big mug of @hasbean coffee on the side. Thankyou @wjjbeckett. I love you for thinking of me and knowing what would make me happy. ❤️

Less confident cooks often hesitate to diverge from the instructions in a recipe but in these strange times you have to work from what you actually have in the kitchen or can find in the shops if you’re still going out. So I thought I’d show how I tweaked my friend @jennychandleruk’s recipe for Catalan chickpeas using the absolutely delicious home-cooked chickpeas she brought round yesterday but adapting some of the other ingredients.
