I was beginning to think we’d managed to skip winter this year before last week’s icy blasts and snow came as a timely reminder we’ve got a good few weeks to go yet. So there’s still time to enjoy one of winter’s great favourites - a Swiss cheese fondue.

Most of them are in a big vase in the hall but I’ve got the hyacinths in a smaller vase next to where I’m working where they’r wafting their scent through the kitchen. Why don’t we buy ourselves flowers more often? They don’t have to be expensive - just a bunch of daffs will do it.
