Had totally forgotten about this South African seed bread until a South African winemaker @brucejackwines reminded me I used to be obsessed with it. It’s one of those incredibly easy breads that don’t require any kneading and only a half an hour’s rise. It’s made with malthouse flour with added bran, sunflower, sesame and poppy seeds and is DEElicious with cheese or with honey. Will post the recipe on the website at some point in the next couple of days. Incidentally YOU can help Bruce and other South African winemakers by buying a bottle or two of SA wine this week. Since the domestic ban on alcohol sales was reimposed it’s been super-tough for them and their employees. It’s a delicately aromatic dish with a bit of a chilli kick from the accompanying sauce. Real comfort food. Just one of the amazing takeaways that you can now get in Bristol - delivered direct which means they keep the hard-earned profit not Deliveroo or Uber Eats. Ordering a takeaway might seem indulgent midweek but it’s a good way of supporting small local businesses. And it makes a proper lunch break. The first was the fabulous Coddington Chardonnay from @kumeu_river which Is comparable to a top white burgundy. I was lucky enough to visit the winery and meet the winemaker Michael Brajkovich back in February last year and have lunch with the Brajkovich family. We drank a 2008 Hunting Hill Chardonnay which was still astoundingly fresh - with roast lamb with which it was every bit as good as a red. I bought 3 bottles of each wine when the Wine Society released the 2019 vintage in November but will be hanging onto that for a while. They still have some of the Coddington left - or did yesterday. So very grateful I got the opportunity to go there before the world ground to a halt.
