My new Guardian wine column and other gigs

I meant to alert you last week to the fact that I'd taken over the Guardian wine column (my talented predecessor Victoria Moore having gone to the Telegraph). You can see my first column here and read my second one tomorrow. (It will come out weekly in Saturday's Weekend magazine)

For me it's a dream job. The Guardian is the paper I read and one I've been lucky enough to write for many times before (most recently a student cookbook!). No doubt - like any national newspaper column - it will be challenging. From the feedback I've already had there are readers who want me to focus mainly on supermarket wine buys and others who want me to do precisely the opposite.

In the true spirit of British compromise I've resolved to try and do both but there will be weeks, I suspect, when one or other group feels disenfranchised. For the bargain-hunters I've revived my Credit Crunch Drinking blog which will focus on deals I get wind of too late to put in my column or which don't fit into that week's theme. (I file copy two and a half weeks ahead)

For those who want to explore the highways and byways of wine there's my existing blog Food & Wine Finds which will include the odd esoteric bottle that doesn't fit in elsewhere and a new blog I've created to express and share my current enthusiasm for natural wines, Wine Naturally.

And information on food and wine matching will of course continue to find its home here.

If you found this post helpful and would like to support the website which is free to use it would be great if you'd make a donation towards its running costs or sign up to my regular Substack newsletter Eat This, Drink That for extra benefits.
