10 food and beer pairings that just don’t work - and 10 alternatives that do!

People carp about food and beer pairings, griping that they’re just made up pretentions that have no right being associated with something as inclusive and democratic as beer, writes Stephen Beaumont

“It’s the drink of the common man,” they cry, “Beer goes with everything!” To which I respond, uh, no, it doesn’t. And to prove my point, here are ten food and beer partnerships guaranteed to make you wish you had chosen something else to drink.

I can't answer for Stephen who wrote this piece and I see what you're saying but I've also found sweet foods can strip out the flavour in beer leaving them tasting thin or mean.

Hi! You mention that some beers will taste sour or tart together with certain food. I Wonder what you mean, since most beers have very little acidity?

Just to goose the comments: Double Mountain is currlntey a pretty under-rated brewery, largely because they have little distribution outside of OReogn and because they don't bottle beers. Reason 297 that you should visit Beervana. Most of our best beers are available only locally.
