Wine for Foodies pop-up wine school at Honey & Co

I’m really excited to let you all know about a series of pop-up wine classes I’m doing at the wonderful Honey & Co in London

I’ve been thinking for a while of doing an informal wine school and was thrilled when Itamar offered to host it and, even better, to cook lunch for those who come along.

It’s a series of wine classes with a difference, directed at a very specific audience: people who are passionate about food but nervous about wine. I’ve lost count of the number of good cooks who have told me - “I’m afraid I know nothing about wine.”

Of course they do, really, it’s just that they don’t feel relaxed about it. These Wine for Foodies classes will help to dispel that nervousness, leaving you more confident about how to choose a wine at home and how to order in a restaurant.

So here’s the plan. There will be three classes before Christmas:

The first on October 11th* will focus on white and orange wine. (Orange wine? Yes, you’ll find out what that is. Interesting and really good with the fragrantly spiced middle-eastern food that Itamar and his wife Sarit cook.)

On November 1st the theme will be rosé to red showing how radically the same grape can vary depending on where it’s grown and how it’s made. We’ll tackle the subject of ageing wines too

And finally on December 6th we’ll have an indulgent pre-Christmas class on sweet wines and fizz tackling different styles of champagne and other sparkling wines and hopefully convince you that sweet wines are not the slightest bit naff.

At each class you’ll get a chance to taste 6 different wines with fabulous nibbles from Itamar then enjoy a main course and dessert over lunch (with a couple of other wines to try) The aim is that it should be relaxed, fun and convivial. I’m sure it will be. Bring a friend!

The classes and lunch, with wine included are £75 each or £200 if you book all three. Payment needs to be made in advance by giving your credit card deets to Honey & Co or, better still, visiting the restaurant because then you can have a slice of cake before you hand over your money. (That bit’s not free, obviously.) Full refunds will only be made up to a week before the event if we can sell your ticket. Otherwise it’s up to you to find someone to go in your place.

*You’ll have noticed that these are all on a Sunday. They have to be because that’s the only time the restaurant is closed, however they won’t start too early: 12 noon - 4pm.

Sorry, Kim - somehow missed this. I hope at some point next year to take it on the road so hopefully will end up somewhere near you! And do go to Honey & Co anyway when you're next in London

What wonderful events, I wish we were just a little bit closer then I would book all three, but the end of Cornwall to London is just too far to travel on a Sunday morning. I shall wait patiently for something a little closer and definitily visit Honey & Co when I go to London next time.
