Win a fantastic Spanish food and wine hamper from Mercado 44
We all need to escape in January, if not in person then at least through food and drink and I can think of no better people to make that happen than Owen and Tom Morgan of Bar 44 who have the most brilliant restaurants and tapas bars in Bristol and Cardiff.
They also have an online shop Mercado 44 from which they’ve picked this fabulous selection of food and wine
Owen writes: “The hamper celebrates some of Spain’s very finest ingredients and artisan producers, whether in the form of indulgent ready to eat nibbles, or finish-at-home dishes to enjoy with the wines we’ve selected.
The new 44 book ‘Bar 44 tapas y copas' is out now and has already received critical acclaim for its production, recipes, photography and stories and was picked as one of Daily Mail restaurant critic Tom Parker-Bowles top books of 2021.
The book usefully pairs all 100 of its recipes with a drink, and also has chapters on sherry, Spanish wine, gin, Spanish cider, cocktails, and vermut (vermouth).
The lucky winner will be able to create a wonderful feast of food and drink at home focused around recipes and ideas from the book
The hamper will include
A copy of the book, signed by Owen and Tom

Gueyumar Conservas
Gueyumar is one of the finest fish asadores in the world. It sits on the secluded beach outside the fishing town of Ribadesella in Asturias. We spent some wonderful time in the kitchens there, and they also grill and preserve their own fish, which are simply unbeatable.

Win 2 fantastic fish boxes from Mitch Tonks’ Rockfish
It’s always a bit of a dilemma what to put in our December competition. We can’t make it too Christmassy cos the winner won’t get their prize until after the festivities so we have to think to ourselves ‘what would I like in January?’ And the answer is something that’s healthy after all that excess but which still feels like a treat. THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED
Our December prize ticks both those boxes. It’s a couple of fantastic fish boxes worth £50 each from TV chef Mitch Tonks brand new fish delivery service Rockfish at Home, one of which you’ll get in January and the next in February. It’s the same super-fresh fish he sells in his restaurants - we can’t tell you exactly what they will contain because it will depend on availability and the weather but it will all be prepared and ready to cook with some delicious sauces and butters on the side.
The prize will also include a selection of Mitch’s amazing tinned fish - the first range that’s been produced from UK-caught fish and preserved with delicious oils and spices AND his new recipe book Rockfish The Cookbook which will inspire you to cook with all your goodies. (You can find one of my favourites, the pizza claminara recipe, here)
And as if that was not enough there’s a restaurant voucher for £100 to use at any of Mitch’s Rockfish restaurants within the next 12 months. You can find a full list here but they’re all based along the south coast in lovely towns like Dartmouth, Salcombe and Poole - perfect if you're planning a West Country staycation.
The closing date for the competition is 11.59pm GMT on Sunday January 2nd 2022 and you must live in the UK and be over 18 to enter.

Sponsored: Win a case of glorious Gosset champagne and six champagne glasses
We know you LOVE champagne (who doesn’t?) so one of you is going to be very happy indeed to win this month’s prize, a case of Gosset champagne and six champagne glasses.
Gosset is the oldest wine house in champagne dating back to 1584 before bubbles in champagne were even thought of. I’ve been a huge fan since I visited its cellars some 25 years ago and am thrilled that they’ve come up with this amazing prize
The case of six includes two bottles each of the following
2 x Gosset Grande Réserve Brut - the signature cuvée of the house and the perfect expression of the Champagne Gosset style. The wine has subtle structure and elegance from at least 3 years ageing on lees in Gosset’s cellars in Epernay and Ay. An equal blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with a little addition of Meunier, the chardonnay gives a delicacy underscored by aromas of peach and yellow plum. The Pinot Noir add structure which supports the wine in its long ageing. The result is a champagne of immense versatility, working equally well on its own as alongside tapas, seafood and cheese like Comte.
2 x Gosset Grand Rosé Brut - a rosé with a high proportion of Chardonnay to create a champagne that is equally at ease as an aperitif or with a meal. The Chardonnay gives freshness and precision and the addition of a little red wine from Bouzy and Ambonnay contribute fine fruit notes. The richness and sweetness of the wine make it an excellent match for wild salmon, fish and seafood tapas, grilled veal, and poultry
2 x Gosset Grand’ Blanc de Blancs Brut - This cuvée encompasses the finesse of the Côte des Blancs and the structure of the Montagne de Reims. Grand Blanc de Blancs is made from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown in fifteen villages of the Côte des Blancs and the Côte des Noirs. Each of these villages and terroirs bring their own character, complexities and aromas to the wine, culminating in this exceptional cuvée.
They are also including six beautiful glasses which you will notice are not the flute shape you may be used to but the wider tulip shape which allows the full flavour of the champagne to express itself.
The closing date for the competition is 11.59pm GMT on Tuesday November 30th 2021 and you must live in the UK and be over 18 to enter.
