Regular visitors to matchingfoodandwine.com will know that over the years I’ve taken shameless advantage of the fact that my son is a founder partner of the Hawksmoor steak restaurant group and this month is no exception

He must have been feeling in a particularly mellow mood as he’s offered a £400 voucher to splurge in any of his nine restaurants in London, Manchester, Edinburgh or - opening later this autumn - their brand new restaurant in Liverpool. A crazy, push-the-boat out meal for two, a slap-up meal for four or spread the love with a feast for six, eight or even 10 by taking advantage of one of the lunch or early evening meal deals.

If you worry that you’re not much of a meat eater - although Hawksmoor is the perfect place to enjoy a great steak* - they also have a fantastic seafood menu.

(*they were recently voted the world’s best steak restaurant and are one of the only UK restaurants to receive a B Corp certification for their high environmental and social standards. Yes, I am a proud mum!)

I know Rioja is many people’s favourite wine - most probably you’re most familiar with red rioja but there are some amazing white and rosé (rosado) riojas too

Rioja wines are classified by age, the more mature vintages being labelled reserva which are aged in barrel and bottle for a minimum of three years (two in the case of whites) or gran reserva which has to be aged for five years (or four in the case of whites), at least two of which must be in oak barrels.
