Win a £500 case of luxury champagne!

We have a really incredible prize this month: a case of some of the champagne region’s very best cuvées which I chose from 50 that were recently shown at a spectacular tasting put on by Bristol wine merchants Davis Bell McCraith to celebrate their 5th anniversary. THIS COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED.

Six of the producers very generously each donated a bottle to the case and DBM has offered to dispatch them to the lucky (I’ll say!) winner. It’s an almost unique opportunity to try some of the world’s greatest champagnes. The value of the case is at least £500.

The six wines are:

Bollinger La Grande Année 2004
The most recent vintage from this famous house. Everything you’d expect from Bolly

Deutz Cuvée William 2000
The top cuvée from Champagne Deutz I tasted for the first time the other day. Really impressive.

Gosset Grande Réserve
One of my own long-standing favourites, an unusually rich non-vintage champagne

Krug Grand Cuvée Brut
What need I say? It’s Krug

Pol Roger Extra Cuvée de Réserve 2004
Another gorgeous 2004 from this family-owned house - one of the wines I paired at the Primum Familiae Vini tasting at the Wine Culinary forum the other day

Paul Déthune Grand Cru Cuvée a l’Ancienne
A new discovery from the DBM tasting, this very rich-tasting champagne from a small champagne house really blew me away. One of a limited edition of 1000 bottles

Because this competition is a bit special we’re going to make it a little more difficult for you than normal so here are 3 questions to answer:

1. Which Bristol wine merchant did the two male founder members of Davis Bell McCraith previously work for?

2. What is a blanc de blancs?

3. How much champagne does a Balthazar hold?

To enter send your answers, address and date of birth to champagne@matchingfoodandwine.com with champagne comp in the subject line. To qualify for the draw you need to be a registered subscriber, live on the UK mainland and obviously be over 18.

The closing date for the competition is 11.59pm GMT on Monday November 3rd, 2014. For other terms and conditions see below.
