It’s always interesting to see what questions people are asking about food and wine matching. Regular subjects include wine with vegetarian food, wine with steak and wine with Indian food but each day throws up some intriguing search terms which make me realise there will always be some pairings I haven’t yet covered.

Over the last couple of days there have been queries about whether Alsace Pinot gris goes with tuna (yes, especially when give a Thai or other south-east Asian twist), the best wine for Brie (a soft fruity red, I’d suggest. Cherry flavoured beers are also terrific), a wine pairing for pork belly (try a German riesling) and a wine that will go with spinach (dry Italian whites like Soave I find work pretty well)

I also thought it would be useful to clarify how you can search the site. Your first port of call should be the new Find a Wine search facility, a work still in progress but which will build up into a comprehensive database of wines and other drinks. On the assumption that when you’re looking at this you’re in a hurry I haven’t made it too complicated, reckoning it’s easier to choose from 2 or 3 options than 12 or 13.

If you don’t find what you want there you can use the site search on the left hand side which will bring up any articles that have been written on the cuisine, food, wine or other drink you’re looking for. For some ingredients (like chicken and chocolate) there will be a lot of entries. For others, such as Korean food, comparatively few.

If you’re after a match for a specific dish you’re planning to make or a wine in your cellar you’re better to contact me direct. This is a facility open to subscribers to the site who can pick my brains as often as they like. In general I recommend types of wines rather than specific bottles which might not be available in the country in which you live but will happily recommend one if you’d like me to or suggest an alternative to wine such as a beer, spirit or liqueur.

Finally if there’s a subject you’d like to see covered in more depth on the site don’t hesitate to write to me at fiona@matchingfoodandwine.com and I’ll  do my best to include some advice on the site as soon as possible.
