A fabulous charity dinner
A date for your diary. Four top British chefs with seven Michelin stars between them will be cooking at an exceptional charity dinner on March 8th at 1 Lombard Street in London in aid of Action Against Hunger. The brigade will consist of Raymond Blanc (star of TV's The Restaurant and owner of the two-starred Manoir aux Quat’ Saisons), Shane Osborn (Pied à Terre), John Campbell (The Vineyard) and Herbert Berger of 1 Lombard Street
Each course of the dinner will be served with a matching wine chosen by Henri Chapon, director of wines for Hotel Du Vin and Master of Wine, Peter McCombie.
The dinner will be followed by an auction of exceptional and rare wines which have been donated by collectors, wineries and others in the trade, conducted by David Ellswood, International Head of Wine at Christie's.
All proceeds will go direct to Action Against Hunger. "Hunger and poverty claim 25,000 lives a day and just £1 can provide a full meal for five children in Zambia, so bidding for a case of wine can make a huge difference for a great number of people." said a spokesman for the charity. "The first fine wine auction and dinner raised an amazing £67,000 and we hope the 2008 event will raise even more."
Tickets for the event are available at £160 per person, including a champagne reception sponsored by Taittinger, a four-course dinner with wine and the chance to participate in the fine wine auction.
